2013 Swimwear Trends - Mercedes-Benz Swim Week in Miami
Fashion took over Miami the last weekend of July when all of the major swimwear brands showcased their 2013 swimsuit collections. As the amazing pieces floated down the runway, the swimwear 2013 was born.
My favorite swimwear trend is the use of pastel colors. Designers like White Sands Swimwear and L*Space Swimwear embraced the feminine shades in a lot of their pieces. Forget waiting for spring, pastels are taking over our closets early! It seems this trend is slowing pushing the neon craze out of the party, though some looks did have neon accents here and there.
A swimwear trend that looks like it’s going to stick around for another year or two is the one and only FRINGE. To me, L*Space Swimwear started the craze and this year everyone has hopped on the fringe train. Luli Fama, an upcoming brand based in Miami, took the trend to the next level with a gold dust fringe halter with padding for that extra lift. The top was to-die-for! L*Space didn’t disappoint, of course, with their printed fringe tops, including a bandeau top with pink and purple hombre.
Ruffled detailing has also boomed since last year’s swimsuit season, and I’m happy about the explosion! L*Space had the most memorable ruffled detailing with laser-cut designs on the ruffle of their halter and bandeau top silhouettes. It gave the two pieces such a lady-like look that I can’t wait to wear. Even Agua Bendita Swimwear, a brand known for their embroidery and prints, added some ruffling to their new looks.
The next swimwear trend comes to us all the way from the 1950s. High waisted bottoms were seen in even the most luxurious of brands, giving the swimsuit a pin-up look. I think this is a great style for everyone, whether you are tall and skinny or short and stubby. Put on some red lipstick to get the true pin-up feel!
My final 2013 swimwear trend is bold prints. Who can get enough of this look? The right print can give a one piece swimsuit a dash of excitement. I have a soft spot for the feminine prints that White Sands Swimwear showcased during their fashion show. Of course, no one can compete with the unique prints Agua Bendita sends down the runway every season. My favorite Agua Bendita swimsuit was a pastel-colored print that was paired with cropped denim jacket. LOVE!
As a bonus, I posted a video that shows how much love and time the Agua Bendita employees put into each swimsuit that they hand sew. It’s pretty amazing!
